DEPORTATION of Refractory Priests to GUYANA in 1793. Decree of the National Convention; dated the 29th and 30th days of the 1st month of Year 2 (Oct. 1793) Concerning Clergy Subject to Deportation or Corporal Punishment. “Decree in 19 Articles by PARÉ and GOHIER: “Art. XII.) Clergy who have taken the oath prescribed by the Laws of July 24 and November 27, 1790, as well as the oath of liberty and equality within the specified time, and who are denounced for acts of insubordination, shall be shipped without delay and transferred to the west coast of Africa, from the 23rd parallel south to the 28th; “Article XIV: Clergymen who, having gone into hiding in France, have not been shipped to French Guiana, shall be required to report to the authorities, who shall take the necessary measures for their arrest, shipment, and deportation in accordance with Article XII. ” Published by the Department of Charente-Inférieure in SAINTES (17) by the Printing House of Michel MARESCHAL.
