MARSEILLE REBELLION (13). 1794. Address: “The Administrators of the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, to the National Convention. ” issued in Marseille on the 8th of Vendémiaire, Year 3 (Sept. 29, 1794): “Representatives, events similar to those of the 9th of Thermidor have just taken place in MARSEILLE on the 5th of Vendémiaire… MARSEILLE was on the verge of being plunged a second time into the horrors of civil war when Representatives AUGUIS and SERRES arrived there… THE PURGE HAS TAKEN PLACE; and the mutineers have been arrested… The purged administration of the Bouches-du-Rhône department swears that it recognizes only the Convention as the center of the authority entrusted to it by the sovereign People; that its cry will always be: LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC, one and indivisible! Long live the National Convention! Long live the brave defenders of the Fatherland! Long live the People’s Societies! Peace to the common folk; and war to the death against the aristocrats, brigands, thieves, and crowned heads… ” Vignette – Printed in MARSEILLE, at P.A. FAYET, Printer to the Nation and the Department, rue du Pavillon. Poster (45 x 35) Condition A
