MARSEILLE REBELLION (13), 1795. General LECLERC (Victor-Emmanuel) Pontoise 1772 – Saint-Domingue 1802; General, husband of Pauline BONAPARTE; Great Peacemaker of Saint-Domingue. He secured the surrender of Toussaint Louverture in 1802. Autograph document signed “LECLERC” at the bottom of a proclamation, certifying it as a true copy, by Adjutant General LECLERC, Commander of the City of MARSEILLE under a state of siege. “The MILITARY COUNCIL of the City of MARSEILLE,” on 22 Frimaire, Year 4 (Dec. 13, 1795), declares that Citizen SALUS, a native of Tarascon (13), a DRUMMER on the payroll of the Grenadier Battalion, accused of stealing a pair of shoes from one of his comrades, has been sentenced to 4 YEARS IN CHAINS.
