LOUIS XVIII, King of France. 1818. Certificate of appointment as COMMISSIONER OF THE NAVY, an honorary rank effective April 4, 1816, awarded to Sieur LUZANCY DE CHAMPOLLE in Paris on February 4, 1818. Certificate signed “LOUIS” in the King’s own hand, and countersigned by Count MOLÉ. On the reverse, a signature read: Louis Antoine BOURBON D’ARTOIS, Duke of ANGOULÊME, Son of France, Grand Admiral of France, eldest son of Charles X, nephew of Louis XVIII (Versailles 1775–1844) and of Chevalier de PANAT (1762–1834) Rear Admiral, who fought in the American Wars—LOUIS XVIII, Louis Stanislas Xavier, Count of Provence (Versailles 1755–1824), was King of France and Navarre. Certificate on vellum (45 x 31 cm) with a seal under the paper.
