NASA. LARGE FORMAT. APOLLO 16 MISSION. Charles Duke works near the lunar rover This photograph shows astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr. working at the front of the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) during the Apollo 16 mission. The rover is parked near North Ray Crater, one of the mission’s primary exploration sites. There, the astronauts collected ancient rocks to better understand the origin of the lunar highlands. The rover traveled nearly 27 kilometers during the three lunar excursions. This image illustrates the intensive scientific work carried out during the penultimate crewed mission to the Moon. 1972. Post-chromogenic print. Numbered on the front.
