NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Apollo 16 Mission – Scientific Work on the Moon This photograph shows the Apollo 16 astronauts exploring the Descartes Highlands. It was taken during the third lunar surface excursion, which was dedicated to geological observations. The astronauts collected rocks and set up scientific experiments to better understand the Moon’s history. The lunar rover (LRV) allowed them to explore a vast region by transporting instruments and samples. This mission brought back nearly 96 kg of lunar rocks, making a decisive contribution to our understanding of the Moon’s geology. Post-processed chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
