The spectacular volcanic island of Atlasov as seen from spac - Lot 165
The spectacular volcanic island of Atlasov as seen from space. STS-59 mission. 1994. With its fascinating visual perfection, this photograph reveals Atlasov Island, dominated by the majestic Alaid volcano, whose nearly perfectly symmetrical cone rises from the Pacific Ocean. Taken from the space shuttle Endeavour during the STS-59 mission, this vertical view transforms this volcanic landscape into a composition of remarkable elegance, where the snow-capped peaks stand out with exceptional precision against the deep black of the sea. Considered one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world, Alaid is depicted here in an image that straddles the line between scientific photography and artistic abstraction, making this work one of the most striking terrestrial photographs ever taken from space. Unlike more traditional orbital views, it features an almost abstract composition reminiscent of a Japanese woodblock print or a minimalist artwork. Vintage silver gelatin print on “THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK” paper. NASA logo in the margin on the front. 20.3 x 25.4 cm with margins.
