GEORGES VAN PARYS (1902–1971, composer) / 1) Autograph lette - Lot 276
GEORGES VAN PARYS (1902–1971, composer) / 1) Autograph letter signed “Octave,” 2 pages, in-8, to his dear “Elpénor” (Maurice Goddet, the principal shareholder of the Tour de France; “Octave” and “Elpénor” are references to mythology): Of course, he’ll be coming on December 13 to Maxim’s, and he also hopes to see him at Mez Gwarenum (his home in Finistère) and “perhaps even ride a stage with you, even though Lorient is quite far away” (a stage of the Tour de France), He plans to head down to the Midi and take a short trip to Marseille, mainly to see “La Juive” at the opera there: “apparently, in the realm of the ridiculous, it’s worth the trip.” Attached: an original amateur photo (8 x 12 cm) showing him on a beach next to Maurice Goddet (captioned on the back by Goddet) and two original amateur photos (12 x 12 cm —color) showing Georges Van Parys alongside Pierre Bouillot at Maxim’s on October 13, 1970, during the “13 à la douzaine” dinner, and Pierre Bouillot presenting a “Beethoven” plate by Jean Cocteau to G.V.P. (caption by Maurice Goddet on the back), along with a newspaper clipping about his vacation at his home in Finistère – 2°) Collage created by Georges van Paris based on a magazine article about GVP (7p in-4) under a cover he inscribed and signed “GVP” to Maurice Goddet, featuring a musical staff and the note: “Please accept my apologies for this collage, which I did rather poorly!”
