Georges LAPORTE (1926–2000, painter, lithographer, and illus - Lot 306
Georges LAPORTE (1926–2000, painter, lithographer, and illustrator) / 1°) Signed autograph letter, 2 pages, quarto size, on letterhead bearing his address, Givry, April 1984, to Guy Isnard (art historian, former police commissioner, specialist in art forgeries, organizer of the Salon de Barbizon and the Prix Barbizon): He informs him of his upcoming exhibition at the Galerie Denise Valtat in Paris, dedicated to his works “Rivages d’Irlande et de Bretagne” (Shores of Ireland and Brittany) — He also announces the unveiling of “the first Baumann silk scarf in Lyon featuring one of my works” - Finally, he notes that Baroness de Rothschild wrote the foreword to his invitation card and is presiding over this exhibition - 2°) Important autograph manuscript, 3 pages in-4 (each on a sheet of his beautiful engraved letterhead paper), 1986: Guy Isnard asked him for his opinion “on contemporary painting on the eve of the release of the book *Georges Laporte—Half a Century of Painting*, published by Edition Vision Nouvelle in Paris”—“I began painting at the age of 10, not to make a career of it, but to satisfy a need”—“You ask me what future I foresee for figurative painting? There is no such thing as abstract or figurative painting; one must discern good painting, and I believe there will always be a place in museums and among the public for high-quality works by artists such as Buffet, Brasilier, Carzou, Guiramand, Hilaire, Hasegawa, Weisbuch, etc.." - Georges Laporte then discusses his satisfaction with painting, his disappointment at seeing untalented painters imitating established artists, and shares his thoughts on the distinction between professional and amateur painters - He concludes by announcing an upcoming solo exhibition at the Galerie Valtat in Paris
