1848 - Pierre Jean BERANGER (1780–1857, singer-songwriter, composer, and poet) - Enjoying considerable popularity, he was triumphantly elected in April 1848 as a deputy for Paris, but, disappointed by the rift between revolutionary Paris and the deputies from the departments, he quickly resigned; he thus served as a deputy for Paris for only a short time, from April 23 to May 15, 1848 / Signed autograph letter, 2 pages in-8, Passy, June 27, 1848, to a friend: "Where were you during that horrible bloodbath, Mr. National Guard? Write us a note to let us know; we’ll be grateful—You realize we must postpone the little dinner we’d planned, given the traffic disruptions and the sorrow in our poor hearts, so deeply grieved —There is enough sorrow as it is; do not add to it by telling us that you yourself suffered in such a terrible disaster.”
