Jean-Jacques AMPÈRE (Lyon, Rhône, 1800–1864) Writer, member of the Académie Française. Son of the renowned physicist. Friend of Madame de Récamier. He traveled to Egypt with Mérimée and to the United States with Tocqueville—3 signed autograph letters, in-8°: Letter from A.S. dated 1837. “If you’d like to come by at 10:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. on Monday, we can finish up. Could you bring me the pages from the journal, including the last three issues on music, so we can get an idea of what the whole thing entails…” + Autograph letter (circa 1860). “I had written to Mr. PALUY, Director of the Royal Home in Charenton.
