WAR OF 1870/71. BELLS FOR THE CANNONS. Decree of Léon GAMBETTA, Member of the Government of National Defence, Minister of the Interior, Done at Tours on 10 November 1870. "Art. 1) The Prefects are authorized to accept the offers of the bells that will be made to them by the Parishes and Consistories. Art. 2) In order to perpetuate forever the memory of such meritorious acts, the names of the Parishes and Consistories that provided the bells shall be engraved on the bronze of the canons."
