Oexmelin Alexandre
When an ordinance of the King forbade the practice of surgery to Protestants, Alexandre-Olivier Exquemelin (born in 1646) joined the Compagnie des Iles d'Amérique. He embarked for the West Indies. As soon as he arrived, on July 7, 1666, he was sold for the sum of thirty écus to Sieur de la Vie. The author was mistreated and almost died. Fortunately, his reputation as a doctor attracted the attention of the governor of the island who protected him. Fleeing his master's mistreatment, he joins a freebooter ship as a surgeon under the command of the famous Morgan. From 1666 to 1672, he took part in numerous expeditions. In 1679, Alexandre-Olivier Exquemelin published his testimony. It tells the story of these adventurers, buccaneers and buccaneers of America. Published in Paris, by Editions du Carrefour, in 1930. Covered in a half-basane wedge binding with preserved original covers. Containing numerous reproductions of old engravings and maps. A well-preserved copy: some rubbing on the covers and spine. Solid hinge. Cool interior with some light freckles.
