Miguel de CERVANTES: New copies. With Marc-Mic.... - Lot 12 - Vermot et Associés
Miguel de CERVANTES: New copies. With Marc-Mic. Bousquet, Lausanne 1759. 2 vols. in-12 contemporary marbled calf, spine decorated, red edges. LIV, 466pp and (2) 524pp. New edition; the first one containing the three additional short stories was in fact published in 1744, still translated by Abbé S. Martin de Chassonville. Edition not cited by Brunet nor by Cohen who give Amsterdam, 1768. Like the 1744 edition, it is illustrated with a portrait of Cervantes de Kent engraved by Gentot and 13 figures - placed at the beginning of each story - by Folkema engraved by Aveline. Numerous headbands, lettering and caps. The Nouvelles exemplaires were originally published in 1613. The title of copies was proudly added by Cervantes to affirm that he was the first to have created in Spain short stories of this type, inspired by the Italian model. The engravings of this edition are nice and pleasant, with typical interiors (pharmacy, hospital...).
