We thank Mrs. Urszula Lazowski who kindly confirmed the authenticity of this painting and for the following information: "This Portrait of a Woman is typical of Muter in that she often painted ordinary people. She was an excellent portraitist and was quite prolific during the 1930s painting many well-known figures as well as people she encountered in her daily life. The woman in the portrait is wearing a shawl over her shoulders that Muter used in another painting of a female figure."
