My desire to do you a favour forces me to ask you to take an old piece of oak wood that time has made completely dark - to paint and varnish half of it as you did the bossing of our church. I will take it to Lyon to show it to Dom prior and to three or four of our confreres who have magnificent churches where all that is missing is your varnish. The piece must be only 8 to 9 inches long and about four inches wide, not wanting to load me, having only one coat rack, with a large piece of wood. Moreover, it is enough if we see 5 to 6 inches of colors, and the rest of black color to see the beautiful effect it can have.
