AUDE. 1778. NOBLE HOUSE OF GRAVE - Testimony signed LEBREJAL Curé de ST LAURENT (Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse 11) Diocese of NARBONNE, On 9 Sept 1778, present at the translation of the Bodies and ornaments that were placed in a tomb specially placed in front of the altar of the new Chapel built at the expense of Noble Marquis de GRAVE in honour of Notre-Dame du Rosaire. - (Description and inventory of the Bodies of the Noble House of GRAVE) - "On 9 September 1778 by order of Noble Hyacinth Marquis De GRAVE Lord of COURTOUGE, St Martin, Joques d'Espalays and Noble Lady De BERNIS his wife were extracted from the former Chapel of the said Lord and the Tomb of his Ancestors the Ashes and bones of those of his family.... It is to be noted as a monument to posterity that there was found in the said tomb an entire body which can be presumed to be the body of Miss Elisabeth de GRAVE named Mademoiselle d'ESPALAYS who died according to the register on 3 September 1720 and who consequently remained in the earth for 58 years, she was about 25 years old according to the register; the presumption that it was Miss D'ESPALAYS' Body appears to be founded in that she wears a silver ring adorned with a little shine on the little finger of her right hand. If it were a woman, it would be a ring on the fourth finger of her left hand. 2° Her clothes that denote a girl, her hairstyle although of a fine canvas, her corset, etc. have been very well preserved. 3° It is because the Body appears to be 25 years old as given to it by the register. Moreover, among the centres was the body of a little child as whole as the previous one dressed in a purple sergette, his linen and muslin hairstyle was very well preserved. In the parish register, on the 2nd of September in 1700, there is the burial of Noble Marc De GRAVE in the Chapel, aged about 2 years..." (excerpt). manuscript 2pp 1/4 in-4° -
