General in 1800. Faithful to NAPOLÉON 1st, he followed him to Elba Island and St Helena, Deputy of INDRE in 1831. (Châteauroux 1773-1844). Bertrand returned from St Helena to Paris in October 1821. Elected deputy of Indre in 1831. In 1840, he participated in the return of the Emperor's ashes. Letter A.S. to Mr POGGI in Ajaccio (Corsica), written from Paris on July 8, 1831. 1p in-4° - "Dear Sir. Your letter of April 24th reached me. You were recovering and I hope that the return of the summer season has accelerated your recovery. I went to General SEBASTIANI and told him about your nephew's desire to pursue a diplomatic career. The General has always been well disposed towards you and has responded kindly to me, but the Ministers receive so many requests, as well as an obliging response, a long time ago to introduce a young man into a career, such as the career of Foreign Affairs. You assume that my recommendation may be very influential; but in this you could be in a big mistake.... My wife (Fanny DILLON who died in 1836) is sensitive to your good memory. We see your nephew quite often..." -
