Léopold FLAMENG,
French engraver, born in Brussels in 1831, died in Courgent near Mantes in 1911. Acad. des Beaux-Arts. Autogr. letter signed La Tournelle, SEPTEUIL (78), Seine et Oise 20 June 1879. (to Aimé GIRON). "My dear friend. Receive our warmest thanks for your warm and sincere congratulations. I am the happiest of men being the happiest of fathers. Our luck is incomparable, at 22 years old, to win such a success is unheard of. It is life opening up, the laughing and wealthy life. What charms me most is the calm of the triumphant one. He receives these things without intoxication, sees with a clear eye the path that remains to be taken, measures it with discernment, knows the extent of his strength and says to himself, it is now that the game becomes serious. I have a strong stomach, a will that equals it. So we will eventually overcome the obstacles. It is with talent that you have to settle in the sun. François and his mother send you their best regards..." -
