SAINT-VALERY-SUR-SOMME. 1523. Parchment, in the name of FRENCH 1st King of France, on March 6, 1523, to the Bailiff of AMIENS or his Lieutenant, concerning the supplication of the inhabitants of SAINT VALERY on the sea. "Wishing to provide for the supplicants, the fortifications, repairs and embankments of the said city must be maintained and continued for the benefit and utility of the inhabitants of Saint Valery and the public thing of the surroundings of icelle, whereas the said city which is a seaport is in border country and the key to the country of Vimeu, trading the countries of Picardye and Normandy.
