Parchment signed "Catherine de CLÈVES" and at the heading of "Catherine de CLÉVES Duchesse de GUISE, Comtesse d'EU, Pair de France, Souveraine de Chateau-Renault", written from the Château d'EU on 12 Nov. 1606. She grants to Notre Amé Nicolas de Launay, Governor of Notre Comté d'EU, all the rights, profits and emoluments that belong to him, because of his Noble Guard. Scroll (20 x 46) with partial seal affixed to his arms. Small defects of the time. Catherine de CLÈVES also known as de NEVERS (Paris 1548-1633) is a Princess of the Court of France, Dame de Compagnie or Dame d'Honneur of Queen Catherine de Medici (of whom she is the goddaughter), Elisabeth of Austria, Louise of Lorraine and Marie de Medici. Duchess of GUISE by her marriage to Henri de LORRAINE, who was assassinated in 1588. Her life is associated with the House of Guise and the Wars of Religion. First cousin of King Henri IV.
