The PASSY family experienced a rapid social rise from the end of the 18th century, and became famous during the 19th century, particularly in politics, economics and science. Louis François Passy (1760-1834), a lawyer, ensured his family's fortune, from the 1780s onwards, through his duties as Receiver General of Finance in SOISSONS (Aisne) and then in BRUSSELS under the Directory and the Empire.
