EMPIRE. ITALIAN CAMPAIGN 1805. "BULLETIN OF THE ARMY OF ITALY" of 14 Brumaire An XIV (Nov. 5, 1805). "After a few hours' rest at MONTEBELLO, the army pursued the enemy at VICENCE... The Austrians had withdrawn by the way of BASSANO; the Army followed them there, and continuously started their rearguard.... We marched towards BRENTA. The vanguard arrived at the moment when the enemy was trying to destroy the bridge. They engaged from one bank to the other with a strong cannonade, which was only stopped by night... I forded several regiments of cavalry with the voltigeurs on the rump, while the bridge was being repaired. Soon the army marched on, and we arrived at CITTADELLA... At 5 p.m. we entered CASTELFRANCO... In our march from MONTEBELLO, we took more than 1,800 prisoners. The division on the right went to PADOUE, ... the one on the left went to BASSANO, which it will occupy tomorrow. The Army is marching on PIAVE."
