The King himself deigned to announce yesterday in the interval of the holding of the Council that he had just appointed my young man as Squadron Commander. This morning he thanked His Majesty (Louis XVIII) and yesterday I offered mine to the Marshal of Saint Cyr. You promised Mr Daugé to devote a day to me to come and dine with him at my home: I shall look forward to that moment with an impatience equal to the gratitude I owe you."
