- MANCHAIR. Departure of King CHARLES X, in CHERBOURG. (50). - Lot 481
- MANCHAIR. Departure of King CHARLES X, in CHERBOURG. (50). Cupboard made ST-LO on August 18, 1830. Agenda signed by Marshal Marquis MAISON, De SHONEN and ODILON-BARROT. "Messrs. The Commissioners delegated to accompany King Charles X and his family to Cherbourg felt the need, at the moment when their mission had just ended, to bear witness to the loyal and honourable conduct that Messrs. Les Gardes-du-Corps held in this grave circumstance. Called upon to fulfil a duty of honour and loyalty, they have been able to reconcile perfectly the requirements of this duty with the respect due to the established Government. The Commissioners are pleased to state that it is to this feeling of reserve and propriety that they owe a large part of the credit for having fortunately accomplished a mission the outcome of which was so important to the honour of France." Printed in ST LO, at the home of the Widow GOMONT. (36.5 x 23.5 cm). State B
