He directed thirty-six films (including 17 adaptations of his plays), starring in almost all of them, including Le Roman d'un tricheur, Désiré, Mon père avait raison, Quadrille, ... The play "Jean de La Fontaine" by Sacha Guitry was first performed on the stage of the Bouffes-Parisiens on December 17, 1916. This play, with a tone both serious and light, evokes, in four acts, the life and work of the fabulist. For his first performances, the role of Jean de La Fontaine was played by Sacha Guitry himself, those of Mme de La Fontaine and Mlle Certain, known as "the Nightingale", by Charlotte Lysès and Yvonne Printemps. The latter, better known for her singing, obtained here her first role in the theatre.
