MAISTRE
Considerations on France. New edition, Joseph de Maistre lucidly admits the foundations of the Revolution. He seemed to be in favour of new ideas, which moreover obtained the favours and assent of King Louis XVI himself at the beginning. In an intervention in the sovereign Senate of Savoy, Senator de Maistre pleaded for the people to make great strides towards civil equality4. 4 However, he deplored the popular excesses and disorders that were disrupting life in the neighbouring country. And it was only when the monarchical and religious institutions of France were threatened that his counter-revolutionary and anti-Gallic ideas were forged5, his judgment being influenced by a reading of Edmund Burke's Reflections on the French Revolution (wikipedia). This work, in a beautiful state and with a clean interior, perfectly sums up man's feelings about the events that followed after the Revolution of 1789. Count Joseph de Maistre Lyon/Paris, Chez Pélagaud, 1862. VIII-236 pages. Complete. in8, (14x22cm) BINDING: Red glossy half calf binding. Ribbed spine decorated with cold stamped fleurons and two title coins. Black speckled covers. ILLUSTRATIONS: Without Well-preserved copy. Slight rubbing of use on caps. Hinge in good condition.
