Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Nice illustrated book on the life of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Containing chromolithography illustrations out of text, drawings and figures in the text. Published in Tours, France, by Alfred Mame et Fils, in 1878. Covered in a semi-marocco wedge binding with ribbed spine decorated with gilt boxes and titling. The copy is quite well preserved: rubbing on the caps and on the spine. Solid hinge. Fresh inside with some light freckles. St. Elizabeth of Hungary, St. Elizabeth of Thuringia, also called Erzsébet in Hungarian (1207 - 17 November 1231) is the daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary (Árpád dynasty) and Gertrude of Andechs-Meran (Babenberg dynasty) (murdered in 1213). Engaged at the age of four and married at fourteen to Landgrave Louis IV of Thuringia, she became aware of the movement founded in Italy by Francis of Assisi, to which she adhered from the bottom of her soul. She died in 1231 and her remains were exhumed in 1232. Canonized in 1235, her feast day is fixed for November 17.
