S., Doctor és rights. Work of long time desired tried by several Iusrisconsults: but at present so well drawn up elaborated, that it does not seem to miss anything of what belongs to the Civil law observed by all Christendom: put nouuellement in light, not only in faueur of all those who study in Right: but also of the Iuges Administrators of the Republic, Aduocats, Procureurs, Tabellions Commissaires, Practitioners, other persons frequentans all kinds of Courts, so sovereign as subalterns. Rouen, Jean Du Bosc, 1614. In-4 contemporary vellum (small crack at the head cap, edges of the title page a little worn, small marginal worm gallery at the beginning and end of the volume). 4 ff, 1987 p and 13 ff. The Code du Roi Henri IV is not a collection of ordinances of this sovereign, but a treatise on civil law placed under the patronage of the king. The author, Thomas Cormier (c.1523-1600), was president of the Exchequer (court of justice) of Alençon. He compares French civil law and Roman law, "to us confusedly abandoned by the Justinian Emperor and now reduced and composed in good and certain order".
