Antoine Charles Horace Vernet, known as Carle Vernet, born in Bordeaux on August 14, 1758 and died in Paris on November 27, 1836, is a French painter of genre and horse, draftsman and lithographer. Son of Claude Joseph Vernet and father of Horace Vernet who was to be his pupil, he inaugurated, with Gros, the military painting, and he excelled in the hunts, the small trades of Paris and the popular scenes: deer hunting in Rambouillet, the dog of the Duke of Enghien, etc. But above all, Carle Verrnet was the passionate painter of the horse, of which he had a deep knowledge.
