Bessonneau...Book "Jacques et Cécile ou le bonheur par le sport", is a delicious little novel by the great gastronome from Angers CURnonsky (1872-1956), lovingly illustrated by his compatriot and friend Félix Lorioux (1872-1964). The author's candor, his love of Angers and its region, and the hopes that sport held in the aftermath of the Great War are marvelous in this bluette. CUR also delights in using his Angevin dialect, evoking the rich wines of the country, and showing the beauty of simple life and a beautiful love on the banks of the Loire in the years 15-19. In passing, the local sports equipment manufacturer Bessonneau is well represented, as is the boxing champion Georges Carpentier, who prefaces this essay, which may seem old-fashioned, but is nonetheless very comforting to sensitive souls. 96 p, 1920, 19,5x12.
