Monce
Tennis/Sculpture/Borg/Monce.  There are artists inspired by the French Open. Artists inspired by the great Björn Borg are already less numerous.  And only two stand out, the late Eduardo Arroyo for his official tournament poster, with the champion in 3/4 back, with his headband.  And a little less known, but also strong, Stéphane Monce. This former collaborator of "L'Equipe-Magazine", is a sculptor, who feels, guesses and makes perceptible the truth of the Great Players. Noah, Connors, and McEnroe have also inspired him, but his major success is Borg, whom he worships. Borg, whom he followed with fervour during his six victories at the Porte d'Auteuil (1974-1981).  This gives us a pure marvel. This 15 cm work, which only exists in two copies.  Certainly a heritage piece for high-flying amateurs. All the magic and all the power of the fabulous Swede are there, in this transmutation of ochre into gold, of clay into bronze. It has been said that Stéphane Monce was the Nicolas Flamel of tennis. We have here, the striking proof.
