Nasa. LARGE FORMAT RARE. An impressive photographic picture of the Linnaeus lunar crater to help scientists research the origin of its formation. Despite appearances, it is not a large crater but a small crater located in the Serenity Sea and is a few tens of millions of years old. Its shape is almost perfect and like many craters on the moon, it has the appearance of a bowl. Its diameter is 2.4 kilometers. It was nevertheless the most famous crater of the 19th century because of the white halo that surrounds it formed by its walls. The German astronomer Johann Friedrich Schmidt announced to the world that the crater had disappeared, replaced by a white spot. This news caused a sensation at the time. 2012. period chromogenic print. Numbering on the front. Caption on back label. 50.8 x 101.6cm with margins.
