SAVALETTE de LANGE (Henriette-Jenny): LAS... - Lot 164 - Vermot et Associés
SAVALETTE de LANGE (Henriette-Jenny): LAS addressed to "Mr le Comte" 2 pages in-4 with qq repairs: very beautiful personal letter where Savalette de Lange complains about her financial situation and asks for help. Enigmatic character having lived humbly all his life from alms and charity given to him by high characters. He lived alone and always wore women's clothes, but when he had to be buried it was discovered that he was a normal man. He was found dead at the foot of his bed in a small apartment he occupied in Versailles. This lodging contained a jumble of the most heterogeneous things in the middle of a repulsive dirtiness. When they were sorted out, they discovered the splendid lace bedspread that covered Louis XIV's bed in Versailles and that mysteriously disappeared during the Revolution. Remarkably, not a single razor was found! In spite of many searches, no one has ever known who he was. The LAS has been mounted on a mitre, and placed in a red cardboard folder with its translation.
