BELGIUM - NETHERLANDS: Marie ANNALY-LOURSE: Journey in Belgium and Holland. Circa 1885. An oblong volume in-8 (17,5 x 27 cm) bound in period brown cloth. 93 pages + qq pages left blank. Important and unique manuscript retracing the trip made by the Bordeaux artist Marie Annaly, or Annaly-Lourse, to Belgium and Holland in the years 1885, in the company of a couple of friends. These travelogues, containing numerous observations as well as amusing anecdotes, take us from Paris (the starting point) to Brussels, Antwerp and its region, the road from Antwerp to Amsterdam, Amsterdam and its region, The Hague and ends in Schweningen. The whole is illustrated with 106 beautiful drawings made by the artist either in pen or pencil, in the text or on the full page, representing landscapes, monuments and picturesque characters encountered during their excursions. Marie Annaly (1846-1910), known as Annaly-Lourse, was a painter from Bordeaux who was one of the first members of the Society of Women Artists. She was a pupil of Auguin, Baudit and Pelouse.Beautiful and fascinating travelogue illustrated with remarkable original drawings.
