Olympic Games / summer, Helsinki, 1952 /... - Lot 263 - Vermot et Associés
Olympic Games / summer, Helsinki, 1952 / Football / Lantos. Rare diploma of Olympic champion of soccer awarded to the Hungarian Mihaly Lantos (1928-1989), unmovable defender of the "Golden Eleven" between 1949 and 1956, where he will get 53 selections with 5 goals. Our Maggyars, brilliant successors of the Austrian Wunderteam of the 30's write here in Helsinki the first great page of their saga at these Olympic Games, by dominating the Tournament, and by beating Yugoslavia in the final (2-0)... Alongside Lantos, we find Grosics, Zakarias, Puskas, Zsibor, Kocsis, all of them genius. On this diploma in beautiful state (50x35), we find the printed signatures of the president of the organizing committee, and of the president of the IOC, M.Edström. In 1954, these same Hungarians administer two spankings to the invincible English, and Lantos, is, so much that during the 7 / 0 of May, it is besides him, which opens the mark. In 1954, during the World Cup in Switzerland, he is still one of Sebes' essential pawns, and in the quarter-finals, against Brazil, at the end of what was called "the battle of Berne", the Hungarians confirm their world supremacy (4-2), and it is our Lintos, who closes the score on penalty. In the final, they met the Germans, whom they had beaten in the group stage, and there, to the surprise and general disappointment, they were beaten by 3-2. Some said it was because their opponents had revolutionary Adidas shoes, others claimed that "special products" would have given them wings.... The wounded Hungarians will know worse in 1956, because it is the invasion of Hungary by Soviet tanks, which will sound the death knell of the golden eleven ... Lintos will become coach. This diploma is one of the rare pieces of evidence of this fabulous epic. This diploma awarded to the six finalists was printed in 1800 copies.
