NASA. BIG FORMAT. Opportunity, NASA's Mars... - Lot 233 - Vermot et Associés
NASA. BIG FORMAT. Opportunity, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover, is spending the seventh anniversary of its landing on Mars investigating a crater called "Santa Maria," which is the diameter of a soccer field. This scene looks east across the crater. Parts of the rim of a much larger crater, Endurance, appear on the horizon. The view extends 225 degrees from the compass, from north-northwest on the left to south-southwest on the right. It was assembled from several images taken by the panoramic camera (Pancam) on Opportunity during the rover's 2,453rd and 2,454th Martian days, or sols, on Mars (December 18 and 19, 2010). The view is presented in false color to emphasize the differences between rock and soil materials. It combines images taken through three different filters admitting light with wavelengths centered on 753 nanometers (near-infrared), 535 nanometers (green) and 432 nanometers (violet). The seams have been removed from the sky portion of the mosaic to better simulate the view a person standing on Mars would have. Opportunity landed in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars on January 24, 2004, Universal Time (January 25, Pacific Time) for a mission originally planned to last three months. Since that primary mission, the rover has continued to work on extended prime-time missions. Both Opportunity and its twin, Spirit, have made important discoveries about the wet environments of ancient Mars that may have been favorable for microbial life. 2010.period chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin on the front. Legend on label on back. 40.6 X 130CM with margins.
