NASA. A view of the supermassive black hole M87 in polarized light. The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, which produced the first-ever image of a black hole published in 2019, is now presenting a new view of the massive object at the center of the Messier 87 (M87) galaxy: its appearance in polarized light. This is the first time astronomers have been able to measure polarization, a signature of magnetic fields, so close to the edge of a black hole. This image shows the polarized view of M87's black hole. The lines mark the orientation of the polarization, which is related to the magnetic field around the shadow of the black hole.Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering and references in the margin on the front. Legend on the back label. 20,4 X 25,4CM with margins.
