NASA. First image ever obtained of the supermassive black hole located in the center of our galaxy. This is the first direct visual evidence of the presence of this black hole. It was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a network that linked eight existing radio observatories on the planet to form a single virtual telescope the size of the Earth. The telescope is named after the event horizon, the black hole boundary beyond which no light can escape. Although we can't see the event horizon itself because it can't emit light, the glowing gas orbiting the black hole reveals a telltale signature: a dark central region (called a shadow) surrounded by a bright ring structure. The new view captures light bent by the powerful gravity of the black hole, which is four million times more massive than our Sun. The data was collected by observations made in 2017 and then processed over several years to arrive at this photograph.Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering and references in the margin on the front. Legend on the back label. 20,4 X 25,4CM with margins.
