Gabriel DONNADIEU (Nîmes 1777 - 1849) Although... - Lot 328 - Vermot et Associés
Gabriel DONNADIEU (Nîmes 1777 - 1849) Although appointed Baron of the Empire in 1809 and Brigadier General in 1811, he hated Napoleon. He was retired in 1811 after a conspiracy against the Emperor, in favor of Moreau and put under surveillance. He naturally rallied to the Bourbons: Letter A.S., 1 page large in-8°: "I greet the friend XXX [the name has been crossed out]. How is he doing, I beg him to tell me if he has written to Paris for the newspaper. I have been doing my part. I am working at the moment on a little work that I will deliver to the printer before the opening of the [parliamentary] session; the arrangement of this journal should be made for that time. My respectful homage to these ladies. All yours" [Only one real work is known of General Donnadieu: "De la vieille Europe, des Bois et des Peuples de notre époque", which earned him a prosecution in 1837 for offending the person of the King and sentenced to two years in prison].
