In-12 contemporary fawn calf, spine decorated, 2 ff. 360 pp. Good edition of these famous memoirs "which are the most important, after those of the Cardinal de retz, for the period of the Fronde". Like many members of the high nobility, La Rochefoucauld joined the Fronde, at the end of 1648. He became the lover of Madame de Longville, and had a son. But seriously wounded at the battle of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine and ruined, he is forced to go into exile in his castle of Verneuil, where he begins to write his memoirs on the events he has just lived. Published partially and against the author's will in 1662, the Memoirs of La Rochefoucauld knew an immediate and lasting success (Tchemerzine-Xcheler IV, 29).
