Rare meeting. Published between 1916 and 1919 by officers and soldiers of the 37th infantry regiment, whose depot was then in Troyes, Le Poilu du 37 is characteristic of trench newspapers. Blocked on a largely stabilized front, the soldiers lived long periods of waiting. Their need to communicate and express themselves sometimes resulted in the production of mimeographed or handwritten newspapers, with random distribution and periodicity - depending on the fighting, the death or injury of the editors, etc. These newspapers were an outlet for their thoughts and feelings. These newspapers were an outlet: no or little information from the front, texts often filled with humor, saucy or bitter, drawings, poems, plays.
