NORTH - Creation of the ANZUN MINES [Historical reminder: Jean-Jacques Desandrouin, convinced of the existence of a coal deposit, obtains in 1716 the authorization for the first drillings with the engineer Jacques Mathieu, he creates the Desandrouin-Taffin Company, named after his associate Pierre Taffin, under cover of the Prince of Croy who holds the seigneurial rights. He exploited wells in Fresnoy-sur-Escaut. Continuing his investigations, he discovered large deposits in Saint-Waast near Valenciennes. Getting ready to dig a pit, he was banned in 1751 by the Chapter of Saint-Géry in Valenciennes owner. Important discussions and negotiations followed. Finally, in 1754, the Chapter dealt with Desandrouin's competitor: the Marquis de Cernay (Compagnie de Cernay). This led to new bitter and conflicting negotiations, which resulted in 1757 in the merger of the two companies into one: the Company of the Mines of Anzin] / 1°) The autograph letter signed of the notary Wagret of Valenciennes, of February 3, 1751, which informs Pierre Mathieu, director of the "Fosses à charbon de terre" of Anzin, that the Dean of the canons of Saint-Géry came to see him about the extraction of coal on the lands of Saint-Waast, to denounce the convention which had been established until now - 2°) Set of 8 handwritten memoirs, from April 20, 1753 to May 2, 1756, which retrace the comings and goings, observations, answers, replies etc. between the Sirs Desandrouin, Taffin and Mathieu on the one hand and the Chapter of Saint-Géry on the other hand: most of these notebooks are in-fol (up to 18 pages), those of the Desandrouin Company are signed by Pierre Mathieu, director (son of the engineer Jacques), or Sieur Daubresse (Contrôleur des Fosses), those of the Chapter, signed by their lawyer Sieur Lefebvre. These documents give invaluable information on the history since 1716, and bring for this middle of the XVIII° century precisions and details on the exploitation of the pits, the quality of coal etc. - 3°) Set of 2 handwritten rulings of the Lord of Boisemont, King's Counselor (copies of the time) of February 1756 and 1 act passed before the notary of Valenciennes Wagret (expedition) in February 1756 which proposes to the Chapter by the director Pierre Mathieu a seigniorial recognition of 400 florins per annum
