The lunar module of the APOLLO 12 mission is in the background. The SURVEYOR III spacecraft is in the foreground. The distance between the two spacecrafts is about 180 meters in the heart of the Ocean of Storms. The televison camera and other parts of the SURVEYOR III ship were dismantled and brought back to Earth for scientific examination. SURVEYOR III had automatically landed in April 1967. The two astronauts of the APOLLO 12 mission to set foot on the Moon were Charles Conrad Jr. and Alan L. Bean. Astronaut Richard F. Gordon Jr. remained in lunar orbit.
