290 - CHARLES-TOWN (United States of America)... - Lot 290 - Vermot et Associés
290 - CHARLES-TOWN (United States of America) May 4, 1804. Private letter addressed to his friend Mr. RIMBERT employed in the offices of the Maritime Prefect in BREST; the Letter arrived by Bordeaux. 2 1/2 pages in-4°. "I do not know if you received several of my letters written during my stay in Saint Domingue... I left SAINT DOMINGUE at the evacuation of ROCHAMBEAU with his army. I was made a prisoner of war on parole in Jamaica, from where I left shortly afterwards to get here, where I was only able to arrive after 77 days of crossing and after a forced stopover in Havana. I have often seen your Uncle VERRIER in Jamaica, and lately in Havana where he intends to settle... I have the project, not yet well assured, of going to France, to follow my career there, and to apply, at the same time, for my salary... as a senior clerk of the Navy and the Colonies... Farewell, My Dear RIMBERT. Be happy as you deserve, and as for me, there are long years that I know only the word. All yours from the heart... Your sincere friend for life."
