Cricket/Paris/Prehistory. Wood engraving from the "Courrier - Lot 51
Cricket/Paris/Prehistory. Wood engraving from the "Courrier de Paris" in 1864. With this drawing by Emond Morin (1824-1882), engraved by Henry Linton (1815-1899) we are plunged into the very beginning of the sport in Paris, probably the first club worthy of this name with the Paris Cricket Club. The Bois de Boulogne was already the favorite field of the pioneers, whose dress (gloves, pants, leggings), and refreshments are shown here! The tent, the flags, and the referees more impressive than rigorous pastors make this document to be framed a testimony of first force, of a time when training was still called "entrainage". The empress Eugènie and the minister Drouin de Lhuys encouraged these beginnings. Small lacks in the bottom right corner. 23,5x33.
