Cycling/Vel'd'Hiv/Six jours/André Galland/Paris.... - Lot 138 - Vermot et Associés
Cycling/Vel'd'Hiv/Six jours/André Galland/Paris. Superb canvas picture of André Galland (1886-1965) testifying to the feverishness of the 6 days of Paris in the roaring twenties. In this very rich chiaroscuro composition, where the famous lamps play their role well, we are in the heart of the engine of this crazy race: on the central lawn, where the whole of Paris comes to the restaurant: the toilets are cutting, cigars and cigarette holders are smoking, a boy in a bow tie is cutting his way through the Sools hats, six halves on his arms... Meanwhile, the squirrels are pedaling and the populars leaning on the cliffs are shouting at the time of the bonuses, between two sausages. Between bourges and proles, the blue train burns the boards... This work testifies to the genius of Galland and the unforgettable atmosphere of the Nelaton street... "Still ten turns, ten", chants Berretrot at the microphone (the snuffbox). Folded, traces of folding on this amazing double page from "L'Illustration" of 1928. 31x48. Very decorative. Galland, was an Ardennais, like Georges Delaw (1871-1938) or Jules Depaquit (1869-1924), other graphic designers of great talent, but he is a step above. With them, we can speak of an Ardennes school.
