Weightlifting/Maspoli/Sculpture. This sale has many stars, this bronze not the least of which is this one. From the mind and hands of Alexandre Maspoli (1875-1943), this "Offering", this split in weightlifting is a pure marvel in its movement, and down to the stylized bars. The explanation of the Maspoli mystery can be found in part in the epitaph adorning his tomb in the Celuire-et-Cuire cemetery (near Lyon): "Incomparable athlete, artist of great talent, Alexandre Maspoli, symbolized strength and served beauty. Under this slab, he rests. France and its friends have not forgotten him..." Yes, he symbolizes better than anyone the famous sentence: "the complete man is the one who like Euripides writes Iphigenia, with the same hand, who conquered the athletic laurels at the Olympic Games". Because the strong man, who was the pupil and the model of his Rodin was also champion of the world of weightlifting in London in 1902, and bronze medalist in the Olympic Games of 1906, with 129,500 kg with two arms, in the heavy ones.
