Olympic Games/Antwerp, summer 1920/Cadine/Haltérophilie/Saint-Denis.... - Lot 257 - Vermot et Associés
Olympic Games/Antwerp, summer 1920/Cadine/Haltérophilie/Saint-Denis. Original official diploma in the antique style (on the left) drawn by Jean Malvaux (Goossens printing house), the victory crowning the winner, on the right, view of Antwerp: "VIIth Olympiad, Antwerp 1920, 1st Prize, Weightlifting, Light Heavyweight, (overprinted and all categories), to Ernest Cadine, France. Signatures, facsimile, the Secretary General, the President Baillet-LAtour. In fair condition, this fragile diploma has been saved by being laminated; and a bit re-cut at the edges. It retains traces of folding, oxidation and some very slight missing, But, it is Unique and in a nice average condition. The all categories correction is correct, and is explained by the fact that, with 290 kg for his category (82,5), Cadine (1893-1978) from Saint-Denis did better than the Italian Bottino, winner in heavy and all categories with 270kg. This phenomenon, one of the best built athletes in history (1m67; 82 kg) before having Homeric matches with Rigoulot in wrestling or in wrestling, also made on 21 Nov 1920, an astonishing world record: by lifting 180kg from the ground with his right hand, beating Maurice Deriaz's record by 10kg! Maybe it is time to pay tribute to him ? 48x62,5.
