Nasa. LARGE FORMAT. Historic spacewalk of astronaut ED. WHITE. White is wearing a specially designed spacesuit. His face is shaded by a gold-plated visor to protect him from the sun's unfiltered rays. In his right hand, he carries an HHSMU (Hand-Held Self-Maneuvering Unit) that allows him to control his movements in space. White also carries an emergency oxygen kit and a camera mounted on the HHSMU to take pictures of the sky, Earth and the GT-4 spacecraft. He is tethered to the spacecraft by a 25-foot umbilical and a 23-foot tether. The two lines are wrapped together in gold tape to form a single cord. Astronaut James A. McDivitt, commander, remained inside the spacecraft during the extravehicular activity (EVA). June 1965. This is the first spacewalk by an American astronaut. Later chromogenic print. Numbering on the front. Legend on the back label. 40,6 x 40,6cm with margins.
